Hi, I have a 1986 Chaparral 17'8" Bowrider with a Mercruiser 4cyl, 140hp I/O...my first boat. I'm wondering, is there any way to "center" the throttle control lever? I took it out yesterday, and it seemed that neutral was way off center. To put it in neutral, I had to actually put the lever at about 2 o'clock, which should be reverse. I was wondering if there was a way to take off the lever and reposition it so that neutral is in the correct 12 o'clock position?

Thanks in advance
BRIAN

Re: throttle problem

Actually Brian, you don't worry about the lever, you worry about the cable where it connects to the outdrive. Put the Lever in the neutral position, then go back to the outdrive. You can usually feel when your in neutral, but if you can't, have someone turn the prop, or have it on so you can tell where neutral is. Adjust the cable to where it hold it in neutral that the neutral lever position. You can also do this with your throttle cable if you are haveing trouble with that. Tell us how it goes, and if you can't get it, ring us back. Good Luck

There may well be a good reason for your remote to be oriented in this manor. The way it is now, how much room do you have between your knuckles and the dash or is there anything else that might interfere with the travel of that control handle. You may just need to adapt and overcome.

Thanks for your replies! I've got it fixed, and as it turns out, the lever itself was very loose. Simple and cheap to fix...I should've checked that before I bothered y'all, but I do appreciate the responses.

BRIAN
