Throttle problem on toon

hey everyone, I have a mid 80's pontoon and I noticed the throttle linkage was not working. The lever would move upward but the engine did not idle up. So I took the assembly off the frame of the boat and opened the control box.

I was able to move the throtle cable and work the carb by hand so the cable is not broken although it was rather stiff to move. What is happening is as you move the throttle lever upward the arm attached to the cable moves outward and keeps the cable from moving. Its like the lever goes up
and the arm kicks out and the cable sits still.

i did not notice anything broken inside, but then again...I would not know it broken if I saw it! LOL! Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the cable housing, (the outside tube) is not moving.

I still have not solved the throttle cable problem...but I did put in a new set of plugs ( Champion) got her running, but now it will not idle at all. I can crank witht the throttle arm up and it runs really good with the rpms up but when you idle it down it shuts off. It a 1985 Johnson 40 ELCOB any ideas on what the culprit is?

It's easy to check a champion plug. Drop it in the water and if it floats, it's good.... LOL....

Seriously, put the old plugs in to see if it idles.

And unless you know the carbs have been rebuilt within the last 7 or 8 years ago, rebuild them.

JohnnyRudes really love Champions for some reason. I understand they are junk for other applications but in OMC's they're the cat's meow :D
