I am taking Don S advice and I need to repair the throttle only button (the button does not move at all). I believe this will allow me to crank over the motor and give the engine throttle at the same. I am new to boats, but not new to mechanics.

I have a 87 Sunbird, 3.7L, merc470.

Can I repair the control lever or is it recommnended to replace the assembly. I use the theory do it right the first time.

How does the netrual lock out switch work? I would think that the switch cuts the motor if there is any throttle or does it cut the motor when the shift cable moves. I would assume the shift cable moving would the netrual lock out switch to cut the motor.
