I have a 1986 90hp Johnson. I can start it up and it idles fine, goes into reverse and forward fine. The only problem is I do not think it is very responsive. When I move the throttle forward there is about a 1-2 second pause before it is going as fast as it should. On my other 2002 Mercury I feel like as I move the throttle I get the appropriate response to my movement.
Could this be an issue in the throttle box or with the throttle cable? It will run from neutral all the way to WOT but it just does not respond well once moved. there are no stalls and does not sound like it is struggling at any time. I did manage to flood it though, but started fine after i let it set 5 minutes. This is all on muffs btw.
