Okay I've got a pair of 1997 115 Mercury outboards. The throttle/shift cables were replaced right before I bought the boat (August 2010) and the tension doesn't seem correct.

Should the levers stay where they are when I take my hand off the levers, or should they ease back to idle? Currently if I take my hand off the throttle, the levers slowly back down to idle. Makes running a long ways more work. If that's a "feature", not a "defect", let me know and I'll stop complaining. Otherwise does anyone know how to adjust the tension? These appear to be Mercury remote throttle levers, I have easy access to the underside of the dash but see no obvious tension adjustment. Any help appreciated, I can also get pics if that's necessary.

thanks,
aw

Another thing we have in common. Mine will slowly ease off as well if I take my hand off. I have yet to find a tension adjustment.

Note--- you probably already know but it is a safe practice to always have your hand on the throttle when under way. Just thought I'd say it before the soap boxes come out.

If you have the standard Mercury/Quicksilver side control, the tension is adjusted with the knob in front
