hey guys
I want to say thanks for all you help so far. volvo 1988 230 just got it running and it has a bad hessitation when throttling up. I am thinking the accelerator pump but not sure. fuel pressure is good and just put a new water sep. between tank and fuel pump.
Thanks

Re: throttle issue

Along with accelerator pump problems, carbs out of sync, and/or mixture too lean or too rich will also cause a hesitation.
The engines are also very touch about dwell and timing. They need to be spot on if you want it to run right.
One other thing since it doesn't sound like you ran it very long. That type engine also needs to be up to operating temp to before the will go without hesitation.

Re: throttle issue

the engine was up to operating temp....I checked the timing, dwell, and all that. it is good. As far as the mixture I did not check that....what would be the best way to check that or adjust it....what made me think the pump is it is very hard to start no fuel squirting out the curved novle(not sure what its called)when you pump it....if i pour a bit of gas in the carb runs great will start right up after that unless it sits for a while
Thanks

Re: throttle issue

I had a similar problem with my engine under throttle and it turned out the needle pin was sticking causing my fuel bowl to run dry, you may want to check your float level as well. What kind of carb is it?

That is the tube the accelerator pump should squirt out of. If it's not, either the accelerator pumps are both bad, or they are both clogged up. Sounds like you are due for a couple of carb rebuilds.
