Throttle friction problems

My throttle handle won't stay in WOT position.....it keeps sliding back to half throttle or idle speeds. I have to hold it in place in order to keep it WOT. There is a plastic headed screw on the lever housing that has a small *** on the end of it. It says "throttle friction" on it. I screwed it in all the way and it makes no difference. Is there something special that I'm not doing right?

try turning it the other way? maybe it was all the way unscrewed at some point and something fell off inside the control housing.
