throttle friction knob ?????

I've got this little knob on my control called " throttle friction" I never did understand what it is. I've turned it 180 degrees either way and didn't notice anything. How do I set it? What is it? <br /><br />Motor is a 1989 50hp Mariner 2 stroke ob.

It put pressure on your throttle control so it will stay where you put it. If it is too loose your throttle will not stay in place. If too tight, it will be harder to push the throttle fwd. Just adjust it to your liking.
