throttle control

The speed control on my old 150 hp Mercury Black Max drives me crazy. It will not maintain a speed in order to plane, or any high speed setting, unless I hold my hand on the throttle. It is determined to go to an rpm it likes when I turn loose of the throttle. Is there an available forward reverse speed that will not drift.

A lot of them have a friction control on them to hold the lever where you put ti. Looks like a knob on the front. Sure you don't have one? Most of the controls I have owned had them.
