have a 95 5.0 mercruiser with quicksilver control. when moving lever from netural to notch to engage foward or reverse gear engine stays at 850 rpm, once i open up throttle and go back down to notch. engine idles at 1200. have to put lever down to netural to get idle down to 850. checked at carb and when engine is at 1200 rpm linkage is not going back down to idle adjustment until in netural. is this normal for this type of system

Re: throttle control

That engine should idle around 700 rpm. Even 850 is hard on the Alpha drives dog clutch.<br />You probably need to adjust the cable length adjustment on the carb to slightly preload the cable at idle, plus adjust the the carbs idle speed to specs. The cable ends are threaded.
