I just had to update mine about two weeks ago with brand new control box for an '86 powerhead (in '76 skin or shell) 115 HP Merc. The boat came with the mid seventies model control box so the wiring was all screwed up. The throttle and shift cable should be match. One key is matching the plug-in from the control box to the motor plug-in. If the plugs match, then my guess is that it would work fine if you took the time to test each circuit and make sure you are connection the right ones. A shop manual would be a great thing to have on that.
