Throttle Cable Adjustment

Trying to adjust the throttle cable since it has another 3/4" to 1" of travel on the motor after the control is set to WOT.

Took the cover off, saw where to adjust but I can't get anything on that cable and still be able to turn it. Can't get the piece off where the throttle cable threads through to turn it to adjust.....not enough clearance and I'm worried if I do manage to get it off I'll never get it back on. Yes, it did have a nut and washer off of it and I've decided I'm not putting it back on until its not coming back off because it's a first rate pain to do so (already been fishing for nut and washer twice while trying to put it back on)

So I see this adjustment on the control, is this for fine tuning the throttle cable? I'm thinking if I take it loose there I can pull that unit out a bit and it should pull the cable tighter thus opening the throttle on the motor all the way. Before I do this, can anyone confirm?

FWIW.....it's a 2011 Mercury 60hp Bigfoot EFI

That barrel, once you slide it off that shaft, should be free to turn on the cable.

That much I know but I'm having a LOT of trouble getting that off of there because of clearance with the motor housing which brings an equal concern, if I do manage to get it off of there will it go back on? My question was could i accomplish what I am trying to do at the control where I can get to everything?

Are you speaking in general on that nut or do you have specific experience with the motor I have?

In general I'm afraid. Doesn't that cable lift up at the front of the engine? Usually there's a clip or a bracket that acts as a clamp. You just unbolt that. With the cable clamp released, whatever your arrangement is there, the cable is free to move around. That should make your task much easier.

I just went out and looked at it again and I think I've got an idea. Probably going to go test my change from the other thread this evening then move on to throttle adjustment and prop.

Just to confirm, at WOT on the control the throttle on the motor should be fully open right?
