Throttle cable ? 3.0 merc

Hello, I just bought a boat with a 3.0 merc and noticed the throttle cable was rigged I found this pic on the web and noticed 2 cables attached to a bracket mounted too the valve cover that I,am missing the bolts are there but no cables or bracket what are these 2 cables? I, am guessing idle but there is no second lever arm on throttle box like my outboard merc had.
also any help with how the throttle cable should be
p.s. the choke plate was tied open. big deal?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard....

There should be 3 cables for your installation,...
1, the Throttle cable...
2, the Forward shift cable, from the controller to the shift plate...
3, is the Lower shift cable, from the shift plate to the Outdrive...

What is the year, or better yet the Merc serial number for YOUR engine.

so is it known to anyone too run without this setup? he told me when I bought the boat it was ready to go but at the same time I want it right the serial # is gone year is 78 and it looks just like the pic
where at does it attach to the outdrive? ?Thanks and wow you guys rock!!!

No, it Won't...
But,.. I'm guessing it's just mounted somewhere else, differently on your's...

is it basically forward/revers because there is two cables that work with the control box behind the motor
also judging by the pic any guesses that this is a 1978 motor

Nope,... The picture in the link you posted is atleast mid-80s, or Later...

I dont think the drive is the alpha 1 I guess I just need too tke her out and see how she does

That doesn't make any sense ?????
If you take it out and see how it runs, will that make it an Alpha I or turn it into something else, and if all you wanted to know is what type drive you had, why all the questions about a throttle cable and ............................... I'm so confused
