Throttle and Timing Advance

I have an 86 yamaha 200 that sat neglected for years. I got it running but the timing would not advance when the throttle is applied (engine off). I took the linkage loose at the arm and saturated the timing assembly and got it moving, but not easily enough that it moves with the throttle.

How easily should the advance assembly be moving when the engine is off? Or at all for that matter.

Thank yall ahead of time.

I ended up spraying penetrating oil all over and worked it every day for about a week. So now it moves pretty freely.

With some motors while Off you must be geared forward for the timing advance and carb synch to open/work fully when applying max throttle, don't know if that's the case with such motor ?

Happy Boating

Thank you for the heads up. I'll work it a little in gear and see what happens.
