I am in the process of installing the controls and I have gotten to a point of confusion. I have a '87 Mercury IL6 115hp using the Quicksilver Commander 2000 controls. When I had everything apart I got into the controls to replace the tilt/trim switch. In doing so I found out too late that I could have done that without complete disassembly.
So flash forward to installing it and even though this is the control that was connected to the motor before and I taped the adjusters but the throttle will not extend far enough to reconnect when the motor is throttle closed or when connected the throttle does not back down. Since I took this all apart I haven't made any adjustments or changes on the engine side. I am to the point of getting ready to pull everything apart and see if there is something I am missing or clean everything up and take it in to have a pro take over.

Nothing has changed but cable is short. Don't think it's in the handle, my thought is its not connected correctly at the motor. Not familiar with your motor, but you don't have the cables swap at the motor. Not saying your connecting the shift where the throttle is, just can the other cable be fastened at another location

Could you have reversed the cables in the control? Put the shift cable on the throttle and vice versa?

Thanks to both of you for responding, I think this may be possible that I switched the cables and possible confusion that way. Once the rain lets up I'm going to break it all down and switch them out. I've tried to find anything on the process of installing these cables and only thing I've come up with is to just bite the bullet and buy a manual.

I'm not sure about your control box but some remote controls have two holes in the levers that you can attach the cables too. Using the wrong hole will affect the overall travel of the cable.

Very true along with sometime both cables might get mounted say in the same slot either in the upper or the lower side of the control mechanism or one cable goes to the upper slot side while the other cable goes to the bottom side. Should you cross the cables up at all then the ends will come up short.

Also you need to ensure you're still in neutral gear on the engine by spinning the propeller both ways to ensure it's not locked up as being in gear could off set the cable installation too.

Bah, I kicked it's ass! No seriously I put the controls back together wrong. It is possible to put the cam of the throttle flap in the wrong hole and it still go back together. Thanks for the replys and help.
