throttle and shift cable length

just changed out my outboard and the new throttle and shift cables are quite a bit longer than the old ones. seeing how back by the transom the install instructions say to have a 'loop' in the cable to make sure they have enough play to not bind when turning I was wondering if the length matters? can there be too big of a loop? thanks

Doubt it.<br />The ends are secured and the cable slides inside, have seen loops 2' in diameter.

Better too long than too short
