Throttle adjustment?

Purchased a 1999 Sea Ray 180 DC with a 115 Mercury. After I get the boat on a plane the throttle control lever won’t stay in place without holding it. It will slowly ease itself back. Is this how it should be or does something need adjustment? If so, how do I adjust it and is it the cable located at the engine? I see two cables.
Thanks for all your help in advance. By the way, I have learned a lot from many of you just reading the forum. Thanks

Re: Throttle adjustment?

Most gearshift/throttle assemblies have a packing nut used to determine tension.

Look on the back of the unit and see if there is a nut on the shaft that the levers pivot on.

Or, if you control unit is a one piece assembly (including key and choke) most of those have a seperate tension adjustment. It is usually a knob right below the key and choke.

One of the two cables is for the throttle and the other is for the gearshift. Give some thought to buying a Merc Shop manual.
