hi there folks!
I have a question regarding my 71 merc 650 - 4cyl. My latest battle has been with the distributor. Unfortunately the 3 low-tension wires leading to the dist housing corroded away. Ive come up with a 2nd hand distributor (new ones cost $512 here), but its off something like a merc 85 i think. I think the housing part number is the same, but the throttle actuator plate is slightly different.

I guess my first question is this new distributor likely to bolt straight on? (different actuator plate but doing the same thing??)

If not, do I need to pull the distributor and adaptor housing apart? The actuator plate one my 65 dist. seems to be just screwed on, but the new one seems to have a collar in between the adaptor and dist housing. My manual doesnt cover repairs to this level.

Here's a link to my existing dist. Part number 24 is the bit in question
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...desc=DISTRIBUTOR+ADAPTOR+AND+VERTICAL+LINKAGE

Heres a link to the new dist - part # 28 and 24?? i think
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...desc=DISTRIBUTOR+ADAPTOR+AND+VERTICAL+LINKAGE

thanks for all the help i receive from this board

Troy
