Still working on re assembling a 1971 mercury 800. Front support plate to bottom cowl didnt have any bolts. Ive searched it to be mercury 10-22040, but no where can I find a thread pitch. Surely its an available bolt?

While the bolt part number 10-22040 is no longer available to dealers from the factory, the bolt has a superseded part number which is 10-78841 and can be found on some websites as used bolts such as EBay and the other link below. One website offered up the thread size while most just shared the bolt length at 1 1/2" .

To possibly find one new, you'd have to try asking a Merc dealer to check their No Longer Available search feature they have access to 'to see if another dealer may have one laying around in old inventory. If you do go that route, you/they may have to try using both numbers to find one.

Om my '73 850 and '77 1500, those bolts appeared to be standard SAE course thread, stainless steel bolts of 5/16" diameter. Why not replace with HW store bought ones. I think they were grade 2 (standard SS bolts).

Yep, nothing special about them. Stainless hex bolt, 5/16"-18, about 1.5 inches long. Pretty sure they had a lock washer on them, too.
