Thoughts on a '91 Evinrude 8hp

I was wondering what you guys thought of a Evinrude 8 hp. My Merc lost reverse sitting over winter somehow. It was having some other issues as well so looking to just buy a different outboard. Any way ran across a Evinrude 8 hp '91 at a pawn shop for $600. Story is the guy had it gone through by a shop two years ago. Had it serviced, fogged, etc. Then it sat unused for two years and the guy decided he probably wont use it again so he took it to the pawn shop. I should also mention I looked at it and looks fairly clean and bushing between the transom clamp and the motor itsself is smooth with no detectable slop. Mainly Im wondering how it will compare to an early 80s 9.8 Merc as far as fuel useage and power. Thanks Sod Breaker

They are GREAT motors I would not hesitate to buy one. They are smooth,powerful and fuel effecient. Just make sure the lower unit does not leak they do not like water in them.

I'd want to hear it run before I bought it. JMO
