Re: This'll be interesting.
Yep, skiing (and ski racing) was lots of fun...and especially a fun (albeit a little spendy) family activity.

I recall when my daughter first moved out here, and her school was organizing a ski trip to the local mtn. (Searchmont) I think it has 700 ft vertical. They were all worried about her signing up, being blind, and I had to reassure them it would be ok. They found out that she could ski better than any of the sighted kids.

As far as Bode Miller, hey he milked it as good as anyone could before the games, and good for him. If I recall correctly, his results last year were pretty good, but so far this year, not so much. In a sport long dominated by Europeans, where the difference between a gold medal and an also-ran performance is usually measured in hundreths of a second, He's done pretty well for himself.

As for Shauni Davis, I don't know his back story too well, but for a black kid from a single parent family in Chicago, I think he's done fabulous. I don't doubt he's learned a little selfishness and arrogance as a self-protection method to achieve what he has.

All of those olympic quality training programs and groups tend to be very political entities, and for a black kid from Chicago to excell is pretty impressive. One can only imagine the hurdles he has had to overcome. I tend to cut him some slack. He may well be a jerk. I have no idea. But he can skate fast!

Can you imagine if we really trained our best athletes, regardless of their connections and based solely on potential, how well we would do?

He's the first ever black athlete ever to win an individual gold in a Winter Olympics. I salute him!
