sounds like a scam, but ask to see it and the paperwork. That is where the scam part will probally go into full action.

I just sent him an email. It would be cool if it is one of those divorce stories you hear about sometimes.

Re: This seems too cheap.

Well, the guy either forgot a zero or it was definately a scam.
The description of the boat is genaric at best. Information that can be attained by looking in the boat and reading Crownlines website.
And a 5.0 w/ Bravo III? In a 22' boat? Come on!
The only thing is, one of the pics is actually taken from inside the boat and the garage doors are open in the background. And there IS a step ladder in the back ground which most likely was used for the aft port picture.
The other two, taken from the outside, the doors are closed.
Maybe the guy was on vacation and his house sitter was less than trustworthy.

It is entirely posible that the boat IS for sale. On another site, in another city. A scammer can copy the pics, post it for some other city, and try to arrange a deal.

That one's a scam. That is the format that they use, they give all information that seems like it comes straight from the brochure, and don't provide a phone number. I would love to meet one of these scammers face to face. . They get your hopes all up for nothing, that's just mean, man.

I seen that boat listed for sale in Phoenix a few times. I wasn't a believer in the price or sale.

Do people really believe these deals are legit?

Here's a test for you to perform on these ads. Copy the ad title and search the title with google. Most likely, the identical ad will pop up on CL all over the country, verifying it's a scam.

Or you could just use your instincts, which most people seem to ignore these days ;)

The scammers download pictures from legitimate ads and then post scam ads somewhere else using those same pictures. You can't tell from the pictures alone if it is a scam.

Re: This seems too cheap.

"Hi,

It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident.I do have the title , clear, under my name. The boat has 49 hours, year 2005.
It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $5,900. The boat is in Great Falls, MT, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
Thank you,

Daniel Wilson"

Re: This seems too cheap.

Call the local news channel and expose the bastard.

I just wonder what kind of person it takes that sleeps soundly at night doing this stuff. It just makes my blood boil knowing they're out there waiting to work somebody over

Re: This seems too cheap.

You'd be surprised how many gullible people might send that guy a check for $5900 sight unseen. He offers to "handle" the shipping for you.

P.T. Barnum was right. There's a sucker born every minute.

Re: This seems too cheap.

I've seen soooo many of this type of scam on CL. Next they will tell you that the whole transaction will be guranteed through Ebay SquareTrade so you can send the money by PayPal. It's all guranteed for up to $100,000.

Now when I get an email like this, I just reply that the price is great, but they will need to paint the boat a different color for me.

But flagging is really the best thing to do.

The local news won't or can't do anything. This is a COMMON scam involving scoundrels in other countries.

Re: This seems too cheap.

I had a client get scammed with this. He bought the boat (he did see it in person) but then it needed to be repaired and the seller said he would take care on it. He never saw that boat again. The seller was selling the boat to multiple people.
