Checking jug lines and my buddy(his first time jugging) is pulling up the lines while I drive the boat. We have to chase a jug across the cove and when we catch up to it there is a 4 foot gar on the line. In the excitement of seeing the big fish he decides to lift it into the boat to get a better look at it. What he didn't realize was that the line was wrapped around the gars teeth, and the 12/0 Circle hook is swinging freely. He lifts the gar out of the water and it goes nuts. As he is holding the gar in the air the 12/0 hook swings over and plants itself firmly into my friends thigh. Painful lesson learned.

I prefer for the hook to go all the way through like in the pic, if it doesn't go all the way through I'll push it through myself (with lots of cussin').

Single entry and exit puncture wounds can become infected easily because the top of the wound wants and tries to heal over before the deep part of the wound, this traps pus and foriegn matter in the wound.

Wounds that go in one hole and come out another will drain and heal much quicker with two exits and are healed in just a few short days.

I've had to do this a couple of times, once in the finger and once in the knee.

Got it! So next time I poke myself with a needle, shove the bastuhd clean through  :p :D

I just like the title to this thread. To a dumb left coaster just sounds like a redneck party waiting to happen. It was !!!! :)

... and cussin' that wormy little Bass that threw the hook into me.

No sense ruining a good fishin' day running to the doctor for something you can do yourself eh?!

It'll feel better when you pull it back out... I promise.;)

You can tie a line around the hook and pull it out, too. Worked great pulling a large treble out of my thumb.

pulling a barbed hook out causes major damage. like said. it hurts but it goes in much easier than out. shove it through and cut with klines. remove clean shank easy. i had one go through my lower lip just this spring. was tying on a hook and the rod tip hit the celing fan in my shop. rod went flying and the 6/0 circle went into my lower lip. thankfully it was just barb deep 1/4" or so. a lil pivoting and it came out clean. took a week to heal up. hurt too.
