thinking of installing trailer brakes, need info

18' Aquatron bow rider,merc 4.3 i/o, single axle trailer. brakeless, needs brakes. i've been looking a champion trailers, how bad of a job is it. thanks

If the ends of the axle (behind the wheel) has the mounting plate with four holes in it, its a simple job. Electric is easiest but you need to add a controller in the vehicle. Hydraulic does not have that requirement but is more expensive and a bigger job because of the plumbing required.

If there's no mounting plate you may be better off buying a new axle than trying to find someone to weld (perfectly aligned) plates on.<br /><br />Other than that, as posted above, it's pretty straightforward.

thanks i have the plates, i'm thinking Hydraulic as it is towed 3 with different vehicles.

Pretty easy job if the axle has the mounting flange. I did this 2 summers ago, I had the axle made by Champion and bought the brake system from them too. The trickiest part is snaking the brake line through the frame, but if you don't want to do that you can mount it on an inside edge of the frame where it won't get stepped on. If you get their kit just follow the instructions. I got the Tie Down Galvax drums with surge actuator and they work great. It is so much safer to have brakes!<br />Being that you are in salt water you may want the discs though.

thanks all, Lou C, i buy all my trailer parts for Champion. there service cannot be beat.
