i would like some opinions please. how many of you have used Bimini Top covers for boats? do they fold all the way down so you can still use your normal boat cover? thinking of having local shop putting one on in September if my motor fix doesn't cost me too much. what have you liked about the Bimini covers? what don't you like about them? when i start going out on water i plan on being out there a lot and need some kind of shade. i have a 1965 14 foot elgin i'm in the middle of doing work on that has sit for 6 years before i got. boat pictures 003.jpg

Buy a bimini top right here on iboats and do it yourself. Look in the iboats store for instructions.

I bought mine from Iboats. It's a good quality top as far as I can see. I've had it for 2 years now. It folds all the way down and still fits under my snap on cockpit cover. I don't know how your installation would be so I can't say about your boat/top/cover.

Oh! That's going to be a great Sunday ride.

Yeah, a small Bimini will provide you with shade and can be used at cruising speed. Yes, they fold down out of the way. You may need to buy slide rails to mount it on so you can slide it back or forward to get it out of the way when down. My biminis are mounted on 2-3 foot slides and they work very well. You can see a slide rail in the third photo, starting about 6 inches behind the windshield wing. On the cuddy cabin (Amanda Ford), I keep it folded forward for trailering. I do have some short rear rods to keep it out of the way while running but quite frankly, when I have this boat out, the bimini is always up and I rarely use them.
