is their a real benefit to 2 cyls vs 1 in Tohotsu? Are these good motors for a high hour trolling motor/kicker for a large boat (3000# loaded) for displacement speeds?

I haven't seen many single cylinder engines that don't vibrate a lot. They do save a lot of fuel compared to 2 stroke twins, but the noise and vibration of a single just cancels that advantage to me.

Two stroke twins get my vote for small outboards.

I tend to agree, however, the primary advantage of 1 cylinder engines are weight. Depending on your application, weight may or may not be an issue. I don't care for 1 cylinder engines as a rule, but unfortunately the lightest 2 cylinder engine on the market weighs 81 lbs versus a 6 that weighs 55 lbs. That doesn't sound like a lot, but, depending on your sailboat, that could throw the boat's trim off. I would check with other boat owners of your model and see if any of them have had an issue with engines in that range.
