Thinking about a Stroker Kit?

I think I'm having a midlife crisis. After years of raising a family my fancy seems to drift back to VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV-8's. (a very safe form of crisis, I think)
I toyed with the idea of swapping my venerable 28 y/o 302 OMC FoMoCo for a 351 windsor. Problems are that A) too wide for my engine cover B) weighs more.

All indications are that a 331 cid stroker kit would really fit the bill. It almost has the same rod ratio as the 302 so you don't wear out the cylinder walls. Because of the longer stroke you have a longer dwell time at TDC so you can run a good compression ratio and still burn regular. You get excellent power with out having to go radical in the valvetrain dept. ie, better low to midrange torque.

If anyone has any experience or opinions, I'd like to hear about it. My motor will undoubtedly have to come out for the impending floor/maybe stringer rebuild, so that would be a good time to do it.

Since I run a 302 in front of a Mercruiser, I am interested in how your project goes.

hello
well my motto has always been if its less than 450 cubes ya coulda bought a v8. I still have my old w-30 442 its about 468 cubes now. I need to find a decent GM "A" body for it. also I have a 460 340 HP marine engine here that would push boomyal's boat just fine :)
good luck and keep posting
