think its burnt oil

hi.
haven't posted for a while.
out last week using the 8hp mariner got back to the dock hoisted the engine of the boat.
noticed that there was a black smear coming from the right hand side relief port.
right down to the cavitation plate wasn't slimy but it was tacky.
left hand side one clean as a whistle.
any advice shall be taken on board.

Probably just common unburnt fuel. If it runs nice and is staying cool, try using synthetic oil and see if it cuts down on the crud. It has on mine.
