Well I think I finally scored a good deal on a 68 islander.. Im hopefully going to go get it tomorrow. The owner has two and has started to redo this one but dont have time or space and wants it out of his garage and dont want to put it outside. He supposedly has all the motor and outdrive work complete it has the 120 Iron Duke mercruiser outdrive.. Said he put a new water seperator/filter on it. Tuned up the motor plugs wires etc. Put a newer carb on it and check gimbal bearing and ujoint and put a new water pump impeller on it and rebuilt trim unit. All gauges work also. The interior is bare with only a couple of pedistals and no seats. He has had it on the water the past summer and said it runs great. Stickers show its been registered the past 4 years.Had a new transom put in two years ago. Comes with a tandem axle trailer that is going to need some work but he put all new tires on it. Also comes with a over head rod holder rack that has planer board reels on it and a kicker motor bracket. And the best part is he said if I can come get it soon he will take 700 bucks.. I told him I will take it definalty. It is about 150 miles away.
Now does anyone have any helpful hints on what I should take with me to get it home.. Tools, extra straps, extra bolts, grease gun etc. Ive heard some bad stories on getting some of these older boats home when its this far away..
It does have a spare tire though.
Thanks for any info..

Bronzy sounds like a steal, way to go.

Trailers issues, tires, breaks and bearings, tires are covered it sounds like, breaks if it has them I would check them out, maybe disable if they don't look good and your truck can handle the load. Bearings - you might want to do an inspect and repack before the trip. That would be the weakest link on an old trailer in my opinion.

Look forward to seeing it.

One thing I learned the hard way with these old boats and thus old trailers.
Check the safety chains! Make sure they are bolted and not tack welded to the frame..I'd take along an extra set..Cost what 15.00?

Good deal Bronzy. Welcome to the Starmada. I'm with 64 on the bearing repack. You don't even have to take the wheel off. I just jack it up, pop the bearing cap, pull the cotter pin and nut. Yank the wheel/hub off all in one go. Just be sure to catch the outter bearing. If you know all this, then never mind. Take a portable tire pump too. I had to drive over 200 mi when I got mine. 2 Maypops for tires, too. I did stop after about 5 miles and felt the tires and hubs to see how warm they got. I ended up repacking bearings at the next Autozone I found, I forgot my grease. Looking forward to seeing :D

That's another reason I stopped at AZ - no chains and the lights were screwed up so bad I couldn't get them working. Got a kit at AZ. On second thought, this isn't sounding like such a good deal for you. Send me the sellers address and I'll buy it tomorrow and save you all this grief. You can keep looking for a good one. LOL Just bring her home and show us the pics.

Congrats on an awesome find! I would second the opinion of new chains, I wrapped a fairly heavy 10' chain securely around the tongue and used it instead since it was much stronger- just in case.
