Got this 1988 Celebrity Crown Line today. 24FT, Bravo 1, 7.4L.
The good
Interior is decent but starting to get sunburned and it needs a good cleaning for sure. Has a few small holes but nothing major.
Came with a Trailer top, Bimini top, Full camper top. Windows are turning brown but the fabric is like new. so replacing windows should not be to pricy i hope.
Motor had not been started in close to 1 1/2 years and fired right up! No lifter tics or funny noises. No smoke at start up at all.
Outdrive mount is solid nothing loose requiring "the fix" and all looks clean.
Came with a good prop with no dings 19P on it and also came with a NEW never installed SS prop but only 17P dunno what difference that will make?
Shore power hook up with cored. On board batter charger. Dunno if it works or not so have to check that out.
Power steering and it looks like it has no leaks and never has.
Mercathode what ever that is? Takes the place of zinks?
Trim Tabs. Work and no evidence of leaks.
Has 40G of gas that still smells like gas thanks to him using Stabal with non ethanol fuel.
The bad
Carpet is getting thin
ALL the teak needs sanded and oiled
Outside needs a good cleaning and wax. Looks like it will shine back up.
Now the big bad one.
There is a slight amount of rot on the port side of the motor mount and it has sank about 1/8 inch. On each side of the engine there is some carpet covered plywood that is also rotten a little.
So i thought MAN another rotten boat and run away now!!!!!!!!!
The rest seemed to be solid though and to clean to be rotten so i took the chance and bought it.
Drilled some small holes and discovered the rot is only right around that mount by about 3ish inches. The bolts in the mount are fairly clean so i dunno what caused it. There just does not seem to be a reason for it i can find. Going to need to ask in the resto forum how to fix it.
The Plywood is for sure rotted on the ends. The support structure is still strong and solid but dark.
BIG ole scratch down to the FG where it hit a dock in high winds.
Over all I think i scored a decent boat for 3K. Probably something will pop up though but i think it will be little stuff.

Oh the owner thought it needed a gimble bearing because of a noise from that area but when he was cleaning it out he found a big sand spike bout 3ft long he used for anchoring to shore had fallen and was rubbing against the drive shaft. No one looked they just listened and said gimble bearing including mechanic.

If the motor mount has sunk an 1/8", I'd be concerned that it'll affect the engine/outdrive alignment since the outdrive was aligned before it sank. And every time the throttle is goosed, or the engine started, the motor will torque over a bit towards or away from the rotten motor mount......

You can ask to have this topic moved over to the resto forum, if you'd like.

Dont think so. I did drill a bunch of holes and that is the only place with rotten wood

Doesn't sound like a deal to me. Upholstery is expensive and its seldom that there is a little rot.

My buddy had an '88 Celebrity that had the same symtoms. $4,000.00 later the boat was seaworthy again. The shop estimated a few hundred to fix the stringers, but once they got into it everything was rotten.

Better google Mercathode - so you know what to do with it.

Best of luck.
