Hi.......this motor is on an Aquasport 210. Both have been sitting for 2yrs. The motor has 288hrs. It was put up with Stabyl. I want to go down the list of things to check/replace before starting the first time. I already know the first thing: drain the fuel tank, lines, and carbs. The fuel lines were new 2 years ago before storing.

The second is replace the impeller. After that I need ideas: filters, lines, seals, lower unit oil, etc.

I've talked with one mechanic who said it's possible the carbs don't need cleaning or rebuild kits. He said to try and start it first, after doing all of the above.

I'm all ears on what I can do to make this restart successful.

Thanks in advance.

Check out the "sticky" at the top of this page and find what you need.

Of course! The sticky. I forgot to check. One question, however: this 225 is on the boat so I can't lay it so the spark plugs are straight up. What advice on squirting the oil in the cylinders?

Go to an auto parts store and get fogging oil in a spray can, that will work for you. Good luck

Update: Things to check/replace after 2 yr storage, '95 OceanRunner 225

Been out of town. Some more things I need advice on please before I try to start it: I had the tanked drained from the motor on down.

Next:

-A mechanic told me to take out a brass screw on each carb and see what the inside end looks like: if it's clean I might not need to rebuild. If it's gunky.....well.

-another mechanic told me to just pressure up the fuel system once clean gas is in the tank and lines, and then loosen the plugs on the bottom of the bowls and see what comes out.

-he also said if the small jet is gummed up I could burn up the engine for lack of oil. (Or did he say the big jet?)

-is there anything to put in the gas tank to dissolve varnish and keep carbs clean? (Seafoam?)

-my OEM manual says not to soak the carbs, rather use carb spray cleaner, little wires for the jets, and compressed air. Which carb spray do you like?

-the manual also seems to say that if I don't disturb the linkage settings, I won't have to link n sync. For real?

Thanks guys.......
