Here in Sydney we have had some great news. Two Lebanese rapists convicted of a gang rape of a 16-year-old girl had their conviction overturned pending a retrial because it was discovered a juror had conducted some "illegal" lighting level tests at the rape scene without the consent of the judge, defence or prosectution.
Come the retrial there was a big fear that the (re-)accused would get off completely because the young girl was so traumatised by the first trial that she said she couldn't go through with it again.
Well, the government's just passed a new law to say that the new trial can use the transcript of her evidence from the first trial - thus the trial can go ahead, the girl doesn't have to suffer more than she already has and hopefully they'll put away these animals for good!
