Where do the 2 cork gaskets go ?

According to the clymer book they show them on top of gasket around thermostat

Other people I have talked to say they go under the thermostat

The --" mexican fellow "------Factory manual clearly says to put the round gaskets into the valve body first.----I believe there is a spot for them.-----So that would put them UNDER the flange of the thermostat as you say.
