I am new to owning a 1993 Honda Outboard BF45A. My question is whether the thermostat doesn't open and allow the pee stream until it heats up.
I had the impeller changed by a marine mechanic a few weeks ago. When I start the motor it doesn't pee water but it did the last time my son used it.
I don't know if it is now clogged or it just has to warm up before I should see the pee stream.

As far as I'm aware, the Honda's all pee right away. Start by sticking something like weed whacker string or a coat hanger or something else stiff up the pee hole and see if it's clogged with something.

To your point; we've got a little Mercury 9.9 2-stroke that only barely dribbles when the thermostat is not open so I know what you're referring to, but I believe all of the Honda's pee right away. Maybe someone familiar with your specific year can chime in to agree or disagree.

All motors should pee right from the start, that port is a check indicator that the water pump is working while a motor sits on transom, if the port is blocked with debris, salt, whatever while run on muffs will see water exiting at middle prop. A peeing port should be cleaned periodically by sticking something stiff and flexible up and down several times with motor ON to maintain it unobstructed...

Some motors do barely dribble when the thermostat is closed. The Mercury 9.9 2-stroke is one such motor, it barely dribbles until the thermostat opens then it's a good solid stream, until the thermostat closes again. I copied the parts schematic below, you can see the pee tube is on the exit side of the thermostat (no water until the thermostat opens).

Yep, on motors that have the peeing tube attached to the thermo's housing, thermo lid, cup yes on modern motors that have the peeing port built at lower powerhead or middle leg no, those pees strong right after the motor is started independently if the thermo remains closed or opened.
