Hi my name is Joseph and I have a bit of a problem. I am retired and I need your help to try and fix my Mercury Outboard. I have a 9.9 HP Mercury outboard. I don't know how old it is but it might be about mid nineties ( not sure) Serial number 5123976. To make a long story short it is getting hot and I am sure it's the thermostat. I don't have any idea where the thermostat is located on this motor and I don't have a manual. Can anyone please tell me where I can locate the thermostat and how I can replace it it. Any help would be much appreciated. I can't afford a dealer to have it fixed but I can follow directions. If you have a picture I would really appreciate it. Maybe you can sent it as an attachment.... Thank you.
please reply to mellieha@juno.com...Joseph

Re: Thermostat

When I first start the motor it runs excellent for about 10/15 mins, it pumps water and runs good, it seems that when it warms up it stops pumping water and the speed deminishes. The motor keeps on running but it gets very hot and only steam seems to come out. I just put in a new impeller and as I mentioned it runs good for a while then it stops pumping water.... My nephew(auto mechanic) it has to be the thermostat but I have no idea where and if it does have a thermostat.... I would appreciate any help. Thank you, Joseph

------------------
