5.7 alpha, what thermostat would be best OEM 160 or aftermarket 142 Salt water cooling watertemp from 60 to 80. The engine is 8 years old now.

Is there any advantage to using a 160-deg thermostat if you stay in fresh water?

When they run hotter they burn cleaner. But to try and do that in salt water causes the salt to bake on the insides of the engine block and also increases corrosion, which is the only reason for going to the lower temp stats.
