On my 79 85hp Rude I have done just about everything to keep it running good that has been suggested on this board. I just changed the impeller a few weeks ago and was wondering when to change the t-stats? From what I been told the previous owner never really ran the motor , so I doubt if it has 200 hrs on it over the years. After decarbing it runs strong and hard. Sure it's 23 years old but were these good motors if maintained properly? My mechanic told me all I needed to do was RUN it.I know things happen but I was wondering about the history of these motors.

Dutch

Re: thermostat replacement

Good motor if maitained .I would recommend changing to new thermostat anytime cooling system is serviced and once a season thereafter.

Re: thermostat replacement

Thanks for the info ob. The only things I haven't done is change the t-stats and pull the prop. I see a lot of motors like this on the water on newer boats so I was wondering about them as far as reliability because they're over 20 y.o.

Dutch
