Thermostat question

Got a new one about my 1992 40 mshq. I just ran a Seafoam shock treatment while my motor was in a tank. I did the tank rather than muffs so I could raise rpms. I wasn't thinking about circulating it through my cooling system unit it was brought to my attention. I put on the muffs today and the motor runs smooth. But as soon as I started it water came through the tail tail and it usually takes about 10 seconds or so. Also the engine didn’t warm up as much as usual the whole time I ran it (about 10 minutes). I don’t have a gauge but I always feel the engine with my hand and it ran cooler than normal. Have I messed up my thermostat ? There was some nasty stuff in that water tank yesterday.

my other thought was maybe I fixed something instead of broke something. This motor has been neglected maintenance wise. I’m going to pull the manifold and see if I need to clean out any more gunk and put a new stat.

Is that a 29 year oldie motor ? Fresh or salt water usage ? If you found gunk at the thermo housing expect to find same in all the water passages...

I’m pretty sure fresh water. It’s on a painted trailer not galvanized and no corrosion except for the normal expected signs of rust. The tank had a lot of gunk after running it in a Seafoam shock treatment which fixed a lot of things. I figured since I was circulating my exhaust back through it done something to my cooling system.
