Hey all..

Long time no post.. was in Germany and other places flying for the USAF. In any event, I had to satisfy my boating urge and put her in the water yesterday. When running the temp gauge was showing 100F when it should have been 170F - ish. I have a 2001 Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha 1. I tapped the thermostat housing with a wrench hoping maybe it would 'knock it loose.' Better running cold than hot. About 3/4 way through the trip it closed and was reading normal. I did drain the block and manifold while I was gone in case it got too cold (better safe than sorry). Thought maybe it stuck open or something because I drained it. Any ideas? Works normal now. Thanks!

Re: Thermostat Oddities

Thermostats do get buildup forming on them that will cause sticking.
Replace it. Cool running engines wear quickly...

Re: Thermostat Oddities

Loadsmasher...I have seen everything from gravel to chunks of wood holding thermostats open....it happens alot on raw water cooled engines....
