thermostat merc 260

Question, I see that with the raw water cooling system, my temps run around 140 consistently.

1978 galaxie 22xl w/ chevy 350 crate motor, with 100 hrs on it.

People are saying that the engines like to run 160-180 hotter more efficiently.

Should I pull my thermostat which is a 140, and get one around 160??

The cooler temps are used on raw water cooled engines to keep salt and other minerals in the water from corroding the engine.
Use the thermostat designed for your engine and type of cooling system.

So stick with the 140 then, it's what came in the boat when I bought some months back.
