I noticed that my thermostat housing is leaking slightly around the base gasket on my 1990 Mercruiser 7.4L even after I replaced the base gasket and correctly attempted to seal it. The housing is brass and I believe it's been warped slightly.

I may try to make a thicker gasket for it, but was wondering if someone might tell me where I could get a replacement housing as well. I've searched a little and don't seem to find this particular one anywhere.

Sorry for the smallish pics... they are what I happened to have here at work. I can try to take some better ones tonight if that would help.

Base looks like your typical BB Chevy base gasket... nothing special there. Has a 1" hose on either side going out to the bottom of the exh. manifolds, and two temp sensor fittings... one on top, the other on the right side. (attached a pic of the whole engine for reference as well).

Any info would be appreciated.

Worst case, get some 220 wet/dry sandpaper and a pane of glass. hone it flat with oil.

Finally got around to R&R'ing this Thermostat housing.... I simply cleaned it up, and ran it on my 36" benchtop belt sander until the gasket surface was completely true and even. Made a new gasket using Fel-Pro 3195 Blue Gasket material. A little Hylomar on either side, bolted it all back together, and she seems to be holding up well now. No more seepage!
