This is a 1978 Evinrude 115HP outboard. I didn't notice any gasket sealer on either thermostat housing I took apart recently. I have a feeling that you don't need it unless it's just for holding it in place for assembly ease.

Does the plate between the outer housing and the powerhead have two little bleed holes from the factory or is that an aftermarket plate?

It seems to be made of some hardened plastic more than pot metal. (I learned the hard way as I had a seized screw and when I put torch to it I had a bit of a surprise when it flaked off.. Seems to not be too damaged but wasn't ready for what transpired.. Gasket should still have plenty of surface to seal on.. no warping that I could see..)

Anyway... The 3/8" thick plate that the thermostats and valves sit in is where the bleed off holes I saw were on. I'm replacing the thermostats as one side of the motor is 107 degrees and not really warming up.

One last thing... Is there any sources for the plate if I would need to replace it?

That's it... Any comments will be appreciated.. Guvner..

In general, gasket sealers are used on damaged or porous sealing surfaces or where an otherwise good gasket has to be reused. Sometimes to glue it place for easy assembly.

Don't know of any aftermarket plates, probably have to get a used one or hope OEM replacements are still available from a dealer.
