Should be on the cylinder head (both the thermostat and temp sensor).

Re: thermostat and coolant temp sensor

Suzuki did'nt make a 50hp outboard in 1988. Is it a 55 three cyl. or a 40hp twin? What's the serial no. or is it a jet drive setup by Wetbike or Ultranautics in which case it might be a 50hp twin. The thermostat is at the top of the head at any rate. Let me know what you have and I can tell you precisely.

I APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK,IT IS A 88 OR POSSIBLY AN 89 MODEL CABREA 50 HP.SUZUKI,AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT THE COVER SAYS,I TOOK THE HEAD COVER OFF AND FOUND THE THERMOSTAT INSIDE AT THE TOP.THE PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN HAVING IS AFTER RUNNING ABOUT 2 MILES AT WIDE OPEN THE ALARM STARTS BEEPING,SO I RELACED THE OIL FEED SENSOR FIRST AND RAN IT AND IT STILL WENT OFF,SO THEN I RELACED THE WATER PUMP AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD CHECK THE THERMOSTAT,SO NOW I AM CHANGING THAT AND I HOPE THE NEXT TIME I RUN IT,IT WILL RUN OK.I BELIEVE I WILL REPLACE THE TEMP SENSOR ALSO

Since you have the thermostat out you should probably replace it. However most of the time its the water pump impeller that is bad. These are a routine service item that needs to be replaced every 1-2 seasons. Does water come out the pisser? Make sure the pisser isn't clogged as well. Bye the way, the temp sensor, if your motor does have one, will be black with one wire coming from it. Good luck!
