My sisters and I lost Daddy this morning at 12:37a.m. Pop went peacefully surrounded by his 4 children.

Veteran B-24 pilot during WWII with the 380th Bombardment group, 528th squadron. He flew 32 combat missions out of Darwin Australia bombing the Philippines, New guinea, Borneo and other targets. Moved to the Philippines and flew 13 more missions before coming home. He married mamma in 1946 and were on their honeymoon when the allies dropped the first a-bomb. Pop retired from the banking business in 1984. He and mamma traveled to every state and almost all Canadian provinces.

Born in November of 1919, Pop had a good, long and active life. He was blessed with only suffering the indignities of his body shutting down for a brief period.

So sorry for your loss. It being Father's Day makes it that much worse. But it seems that your Dad had a full and productive life and had family that loved him and cared for him. Hold onto the memories.

My next door neighbor is a former B-24 pilot from the 464th, who flew bombing missions over Germany in WWII. At 90 years of age and alone since his wife passed, he still doesn't talk about it much. We do what we can for him, but it's sad to see him growing weaker with time.

We only get one mom and dad, and losing them is tough. In my view, it's even a little harder when he has a history like your dad's in which he performed with courage for the benefit of all humanity. You lost your father and we all lost a bit of our history.

You have my sympathy my friend.

We are so sorry for your families loss. The Admiral and I will keep you all in our prayers. The loss of one of the greatest generations is truly sad as they showed grit and sacrifice which we are truly lacking now a days. The loss of a father is hard enough much less today. God Bless.

ehenry in honor of Independence Day would like to offer my condolences to you and your family.

I think we first met here after I posted pics of a air show that the Commemorative Air Force was at with their WWII planes. I remember your posts and stories, especially the pic of your Dad sitting in the pilots seat of the B-25. After crawling through a B-17 I became interested in the history of the planes and the pilots.

Two years ago the CAF Air Power History Tour came to our neck of the woods and I did something I will never forget. For a tenth anniversary present I bought
me and my gal a flight on the B-29 Fifi. Also there was a B-25, Diamond LiL a B-24 Liberator and assorted P-51's and trainers, etc. Watching the WWII vets, many in wheelchairs was a very moving experience and a great history lesson. Before our flight on Fifi the crew introduced themselves and gave a little talk about the plane and when they asked if anyone going had a father who served in WWII I was proud to raise my hand.

We got to experience the sights, sounds, smells of all the planes as they flew and the presence of the few remaining men who flew them. Thanks to the all volunteer crews of the CAF and others like them the history is being preserved.
