I pulled the regular incandescant lighting off the trailer today. The lights saw only one season of use and the salt water corroded them to totally useless. When putting on the new LED side marker lights I had to make a new mount. Decided to make one that will not rust. Found some scraps of polycarbonate left over from the windshield project and made these nifty little clear mounts for the marker lights.

Got too much free time on my hands, don't I?

Mark I fixed up my lights first thing after my long trip home. I makes me feel better now that the rear lights match ranther than black and white frame and round and square. :)

I am lucky no salt water here or maybe not depending on what you want.

Re: The ultimate in corrosion free lights...

When I installed the LED tail lights, I cut the old lights just in front of the crimp connecter. The connecter was packed with (probably) dielectric grease. The water had got past it and into the wire. When I stripped the wire the copper was black for about 6 inches up the wire (from salt water corrosion I think). When I made the new crip connections, I packed the open ends of the connecter with marine silicone sealer. Hopefully, that will keep the water out for a few years.

I hope. :)

What I do with mine is smear OMC triple guard grease (water proof grease) on all the contacts and the bulb base. All the crimped connections I go over with Liquid Electrical tape (comes in a can and a brush, you brush it on, when it dries it is like rubber insulation). So far I have not had a problem the past few seasons. The waterproof grease really helps on the contacts. The tail lights I have are the regular bell jar types. Replaced the tail lights and the center triple bar lamps a few years ago. The yellow side marker ones are original (1994 Loadrite) and still work!
