As in every aspect in life thing's change, for me it is time to make some decision's. As a few of you know dockside was a place one could vent his or her emotion's on our country's future.....yes we said many hard thing's from both side's and im sure feeeling's were hurt.

I sit here pondering why i am even making such a statement,i have learned so much, iv'e spent countless hours reading and interacting with so many well informed people i all most feel foolish to say im out.

But in the recent light of being PC ..........OMR know you know why business has no place or value in
a democrary........it only leads to being repulsive........and Admin 5 Your policy's are just that repulsive...... It has been my pleasure to see the and work with all the talent that exist's within this forum....i bow a bit.

Re: The time has come

Does that mean you're jumping ship? I must admit that many topics are suppressed due to the new guidelines and I post much less than in the past.It is however a boating site and most of my first 4000 or so were in the John/Rude repair forums.I post less there than before mainly because I was away for a spell due to some family issues and since returning have been mostly reading helpfull posts from some new and very energetic and knowledgeable members.

I did like to visit Dockside now and then though and read viewpoints and express a few on current events from time to time.Unfortunately like many other things in life ,a few over the top types have dictated the privileges of the masses.I'm sure that the moderation of such got real old after a spell. In the end, this is a privately owned business that provides these forums for the shear enjoyment of its members and also as a reflection of what they choose to represent themselves as.

Hey TG, Are you really leaving? I haven't been here that long, and don't know anyone that well, but I've seen your posts, and appreciate your opinion, whether I agree or not, but that's what a forum is about. It is a valuable information exchange. So sorry to see that You, and Boomyal, are bowing out. Good Luck, and Happy Holidays

Sorry to hear that you are leaving. :(
I had not visited this forum in quite some time due to the volume of slander, inuendos and extreme bias which were constantly being exchanged between a minority of the membership, i found such behaviour to be boorish and utterly distasteful.
I have of yesterday begun to log on and post in DC again, after a little browsing, it did not take me long in deciding to come back to iboats. Thanks to SBN (Lester)
I am in support of the changes made by our host, so far i have found it to be the refreshingly civilized place it once was.

Sorry you feel that way, TG.

Too bad so many couldn't be civil and courteous while stating their views. They ruined it for the rest of us.

I itch passionately to post one or more of my opinions on politics or religion, but history indicates that I would then be in a position to edit or delete vulgar or hostile remarks by those who disagree (and some who agree).

Anytime you feel friendly please come back.

I understand how and why you are feeling the way you do. And I don't disagree.

However, these feelings and those that already left for the same reasons display the same symptoms. These symptoms as well as most of our past behaviour here on DC point to those of us having the ailment of taking ourselves much too seriously. IMHO

You have to admit, had this been an actual "dockside" the water would have been stained the color red from time to time from the way some (myself included) "chatted".

I'm with Bootle on this. That said, sorry to see you go Tail gunner you had some good viewpoints. As for myself I appreciated some of the exchanges but many were fairly disappointing incognito 'stab and run'. I prefer my debate face to face with facts supporting the debate (not entertainment media based rhetoric). Some members were more and better informed than others. There certainly isn't any shortage of outlets online to vent.
Regardless, the change has been ok with me....less combative perhaps but I'm good with it.
Take Care and drop in again.

Re: The time has come

I have been to this site on and off for a few years. I mostly come for information so I missed all that was happening here. It is until recently, in the past month or so that I found the DC.
I have also seen you TG as an active member adding quality and information to the board. I hate that anyone like you decides to leave for the reasons you stated.
I have seen this before. I am very active in a fly-fishing site about the southeast. The owner decided to clean the forum, made few changes in the rules, moderate the site a way more and kick out frequently rule breakers. He, his “non paid free doers” moderators and supporters (me included) have been called all kind of things, from Nazis and communist to other words I could not use here.
Sometimes we take our freedom of speech too far. The First Amendment is to protect the people of the USA from the Government, but it has no hold outside the federal and state government. At work, in the mall, at the Gym, etc you can only get away saying what you want without repercussions as long as it falls whiting the boundaries and policies of the people in charge. Why will this private forum be any different?
Again, if you must go then you need to go. At least you are doing it in your terms. Maybe after some time off you might see it in a different way.
Godspeed and good luck in your future endeavors.

I (for one) do not really understand the need for these "good bye" posts. Its a forum for pete's sake. Its not like its a city where you're moving hundreds of miles away.

If you don't like this forum any more, say I don't like this forum anymore so I probably won't be around much anymore. Leave all the other "crap" out.

Ergh, maybe I'm just in a bad mood this morning. Lack of cigarettes and all that.

BUT I will tell you this, TG. Good luck and I hope you find another forum where you can express your thoughts and get into the discussions you enjoy. Seriously.

Nah, you're right - we've all seen hundreds of these. Sometimes people take things waaaaay too seriously. There's jerks on this planet, and despite what we do we're never going to be able to control them - they'll just be perpetual jerks. IMO, ignore the morons and they will go away.

What I never understand, are the people who are "outa here!!" and then come back an hour or so later to post a followup message in their "outa here!!" message. :D

So, sorry to see you go TG - tis been a busy year or so, so I never got a chance to exchange thoughts with you.

Have a great Christmas!

I look at it in a different way. For a lot of people, these forums are more that just a place in cyberspace. In that forum that I go, it is more like a communitiy. We have established multiple activities thru the year were everyone that can go into a big camping/fishing/fun weekend. We have been doing it for years and it creates a huge bond. We even had members as far as australia come to a couple of those meetings. So for SOME it is more than just a corner in cyberspace. If that website administration would to change the site feel or rules to the point that I think is unbearable to me I would do the same. Post a good bye post, giving that way an opportunity for contact to those members that for some reason would like to keep contact with me and we have not been able to for whatever reasons.
I will venture to say that TG felt that this place was more than just a forum...

I will let this one rest.

Re: The time has come

I feel the same way Nandy, allot of these people like TG (for example) here on this forum have helped allot of Iboaters on here, and allot of us Iboaters really do appreciate the help and advice from these guys. You get some of these guys that are mechanically inclined, some are electrical inclined, some are body/hull repair inclined and some have knowledge of all of the above.

It's nice to get to pay respect to the guys who have helped us in the past, when they decide to leave, it's almost like leaving a job.

TG take care man and I appreciate your help and knowledge that you have passed on.

Hmmmmmmm, I hope we will still see each other TG, (over yonder), if not: GOOD LUCK n' please give me Bro yer contact information and let him share it with me, (he doesn't tell secrets without permission as you prolly know).

I'm prolly one of the main offenders prior to the change, (but I still like this place and do not plan to leave).

I doubt I would post a good bye post, (if I changed me mind), as I'm sure I made many here mad at me fer me strong opinions n' agressive style. Sorry 'bout that, (many don't like me or me 'pone over younder either).

I still like ta debate n' generally cause consternation fer posters who spread spin that distorts basic news.

See ya soon TG I hope!!!! Respectfully, JR

ps: is 12er still here?

I too am sorry to see TG depart the ranks.
As for the first part of your post ,I disagree. Its nice to know when long standing active members decide to leave to explore other arenas. When members you've chatted, joked with or other wise exchanged meaningful dialog with, just disappear it leaves you wondering what happened to them. A few names come to mind NYMINUIT, and Magsters, to name a couple. At least if the post a farewell thread you know their OK.
