The Thermostat I bough looks funny. I was replaceing the T-stat today and the T-stat I got looks smaller that the old 1 and does not fit well in the housing am I missing something?

On this page you will see the 403S I bought but the T-stat I took out looks like the 422.

I have a 1988 Force 85HP.

In replaceing the Tstat it did not fit as tighly and I would like and seems to wiggle out of the hole as I replace the cover.

cause you was on the OMC page :) . try this number at any napa store, 18-3559. its the 110* t-stat. the 18-3557 is a 143* look carefully at your old one. it should be marked. the force part# for the 110* is F528068 and the 143* is F335068

Looks like I will be heading to NAPA. For the 110 degree t-stat. Makes me mad as there are places that have the 403 as a force product. Also if the were a ring that fits on the 403 I have it would work.
THX Rodbolt

realgun
in the 90's after brunswick bought US Marine they started chaning to the merc t-stats. most of wich share the same physical diminsions as the OMC t-stats.
in fact for years I put OMC self flushing t-stats in merc v6 cause they worked better.they even used the same rubber seal as some of the OMC stuff.

not that my old parts book shows. but if you can get the part number from someplace, a merc dealer may still have it, you can cross the numbers.
