Hey guys- I was hoping someone could set me straight and explain to me what the term "Decarb" means. If it means spraying a can of that OMC Engine Tuner spray in the carbs, then Im good. If not, then Im clueless.

Also, I am a new owner to a 1990 200hp Johnson and was curious what the manufacture's WOT readings are. I run 55 mph at about 5400-5500 rpm with a 14 1/4 in, 23 deg prop. Does that sound right?

Thanks

Never run that exact motor but 5500 is right about where I would want to be.

OMC Engine Tuner, Seafoam, both products work well for a decarb.

There are many variations of how to do it, check out the FAQs here on iboats for a thread on it.

Re: The term "Decarb"? and recommended WOT RPM's

The 1990 sales brochure says the factory operating range is 5000-6000 rpm's. They made two types that year, the basic 200 (in white) and the GT/XP high perf version (in charcoal/grey.) The GT version was closer to the 225 in terms of performance. Both used the same operating range. For optimal peformance and overall fuel economy, it's best to prop the engine to run at the upper end of the range-closer to 6000 rpm's at WOT. You may find a 21 pitch more to your liking.

Decarb.... Cleaning cylinders lof carbon. Buildup by using a petroleum based solvent in spark plug holes and letting it sit for a while then fire her up
