Re: The Single Most Frustrating Piece of Advice Ever Devised

I think what they are trying to say is this. It rarely happens that you go out on the lake and find fish right away in the first spot and with the first bait you try. It does happen but not very often. So you end up trying different lures and different depths, and presentations till some sort of pattern emerges that fish seem to be hitting on , on that particular day. <br /><br />There you have it, the fish are telling you what they want. <br /><br />I think I got it right???

I gotta think MRS is on to something, Flahthead. Could it really mean "toss everthing in the boat at 'em, and if a pattern emerges fish the heck out of it?" I mean, DUH!<br /><br />The fishing equivalent of a coach telling reporters, "The reason we won is, we were ahead at the end of the game."<br /><br />There's some kind of hidden message there I just know it.

To me it's not just about throw everything you got at them because you might have already thrown the correct bait. It might be the very subtle changes in retrieve, color, weight, even line size matter lots of different factors. You've got to pay very close attention to notice the different. Kinda like a woman, she'll be dropping little hints and if you caught it, figured out what it means. She'll be happy woman, which makes you a happy man. Letting the fish tell you what they want is a generic way to tell you that you needs to figured it out yourself, because they can't really tell you what to do for sure. IMO.

its all relative. the fish could be holding on windy points, docks under tires from docks, and the depth could vary day to day. once you find the pattern then its pretty easy to catch fish.

This advice is as much helpful than "you had to think like a fish"

If they COULD tell you what they wanted, they'd probably tell you to stop poking 'em in the face with fish hooks. :p <br /><br /><br />spots

Its is really frustrating, but its true. Unfortunately it is often used by a lazy writer. When I am paying good money for a fishing magazine, and reading an article I am looking for information that will help me identify a pattern. Things like "bait fish may be active on wind blown banks on windy days" or when water temps are coold look for moderately shallow rock bottom and rock bank areas where water temps will rise more quickly during hte day." <br /><br />What I sure despise is paying for somebody to tell me to go figure it out for myself.

Its is frustrating, but thats what fishing is all about, trying to figure out the paterns and the moods.here on one of our lakes the patterns and location can change by the hour,it is some tough fishing but being on the water and trying is better than doing honeydos or work. and it is a learning process you can incorporate on the next trip or the next time the conditions are the same.

Ron G, I hope your first initial isn't W, that would make you WRonG. "better than doing honeydos or work" - ain't nothing wrong with that!!!<br /><br />Hey Bob that's what I'm talkin bout. No doubt many great bass fishermen are fine writers, but I guess I'd rather get advice from a good fisherman/lazy writer than the other way round.

I don't want a fish that talks. If they could talk they would probably say feed me without the hooks. Besides, there is more to fishing than catching fish: beer, kicking back, music, no housework, etc. R & R

No, no, you poor fallen humans. Fish speak eloquently; only a few of us others can hear and understand them. First of all, you already know that you can't see under the water until you know what is there. Well, likewise, you can't understand a fish until you know what it is saying. The real problem, of course, is that they are reluctant to talk with hooks in their lips. I helped a weary salmon over a dam once because she asked so nicely. Too bad she died, or I could present her as a witness.
