I have had the last straw with my Acura GPS system. I was already annoyed how easy I can find things via my smart phone, but it is much harder to find with my nav system. How can driving south to PA help me get North to Canada, when I am in the middle of NY? For $100+ for an upgrade, I would rather spend that money on a new iPhone.

Don't be held hostage! :D I would definitely do the smart phone upgrade, but be sure to have it plugged in when you're using it for navigation because it tends to drain them quickly

Why not just put a new aftermarket system in, I put one in my Explorer and have not had a problem at all with it, you will need to purchase a kit to insure it fits correctly, but the after market stuff makes the factory stuff look sick. and not in a good way.

Well, if you don't know that Canada is north of NY, then you are lost already. :)

Why not just drive N till you find a sign pointing out the road that will take you into Canada?

No sense of adventure? Fine, then get directions from the net (or a map) and follow them. It's really pretty easy.

Every state I've been to, gives out free maps. They even have them posted in the travel centers, you can look at them when you stop to pee and get more coffee.

Why do people have to complicate things?

Paper maps? How 20th century. I refold them until I have about one square foot of current roads for quick reference. Refold at pee/coffee stops. And the battery never goes dead.

Re: The reason to never buy integrated NAV!

Back in the day, motorcycle road trips, a simple little slip of paper.

Green Bay Wi to Estes Park CO, 1130 miles split over 2 days. Sept 1990.

Here were my directions, taped to the tank bag.

Drive to Oshkosh, then
151 S
I-90 E
I-80 W
I-76 W
US34 W
then follow the signs.

Across the top of the tank bag was another note.

"Ride hard or stay home."

I've been doing the slip of paper thing all my life. Never had a GPS and never will. When going a really long distance a road atlas is always next to my seat. If I get a little lost then what the heck, now it is a road adventure for a few miles.
